INCOMTEL LTD
Incomtel, founded by Mike Burridge,
flourished in the early 1980's. The firm was based in Goldhawk Road,
Shepherds Bush, London. It started out as an antenna construction and
maintenance company, then added RF, mechanical, and power engineers
giving it the capability of taking on greenfield and/or turnkey
projects.
Incomtel installed antenna, feeder, and transmitter systems in many
parts of the world, including Niger, Mali, what used to be Zaire
(Congo), French Congo, Nicaragua, Libya, and so on. Its innovative
projects included no less than two complete mobile broadcast stations,
each comprising a pair of Mercedes tractors hauling purpose-built
containerised studio, transmitters, mobile antenna, and soundproofed
generator.
One of the engineers associated with the company was the late Martin
Newton, who was responsible for the engineering of the original Radio
London 'pirate' radio ship. I, of course, had also been associated with
Radio Caroline, so that makes two 'nautical' radio people in one
facilities company!
